Rick Ross has reigned supreme on the Miami rap scene and the national music charts since releasing his #1 debut album in 2006. Since then, the "Teflon Don" has recorded three more hit albums and is working on his fifth. Rick Ross tour dates are scheduled periodically throughout 2011. Born William Leonard Roberts II in Mississippi, he moved to Miami at a young age and attended Albany State University on a football scholarship before focusing his energies on his rhyming skills. Rick Ross made a name for himself by touring and performing alongside his mentor, Trick Daddy, in the early 2000s. He was signed to Trick Daddy's label, Slip-n-Slide, and released his debut album, Port of Miami, in 2006. The album broke records when it debuted at #1. Rolling Stone magazine hailed the debut disc as the rap album of the summer. The album featured two hit singles, the Platinum certified "Hustlin", and the top ten rap track "Push It". The album was certified Gold and Ross became an overnight rap sensation. Rick Ross tour dates were the hottest ticket of Summer, 2011 and he quickly went back into the studio to record the follow-up.
Ross released his sophomore set, Trilla, to similar fanfare in 2008. The album also debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Gold. It featured the Platinum single, "The Boss", and earned the rapper the #4 position on MTV's list of the "Hottest MCs in the Game". Rick Ross tour dates were scheduled across the country to promote the disc and he wrote rhymes for his third album Deeper Than Rap. Ross also created his own imprint, Maybach Music Group, which is distributed through Warner Bros. Records. The label had a #1 album on their hands when Ross released Deeper Than Rap in 2009. Ross was quick to follow-up in 2010 with Teflon Don. This album debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200, his first album not to debut at #1. For the disc, Ross earned a nomination at The Source Awards for "Man of the Year", and he garnered a nomination at the BET Awards 2011 for "Best Male Hip Hop Artist".
Rick Ross is the latest mogul to emerge in the Hip-Hop world, with a record label, #1 albums, and Platinum plaques to his credit. In addition, he is recording a collabo album with Diddy entitled Bugatti Boy and working on his sixth album, God Forgives, I Don't, which are both scheduled for release in 2011. Rick Ross tour dates and performances have been scheduled periodically throughout 2011. Most notably, Rick Ross scheduled a performance at the BET Awards, in June, 2011. For those of you not able to cop tickets to the BET Awards, Rick Ross tour dates are also scheduled at local venues in your area. Meek Mill: This North Philadelphia rapper knew he wanted to make music from the age of 12. After losing a street battle to some neighborhood rappers, and through the inspiration of his grandfather, Philly rap pioneer Grandmaster Nell, Meek Mill set his sights on being the best and hasn’t looked back. Now one of the powerhouse five that make up the Maybach Music Group and collaborating with artists such as Rick Ross, T.I, Drake and Lil Wayne.
Born May 6, 1987, Robert Rahmeek Williams and his sister were raised by their mother after his father’s death when Mill was only five. After losing the rap battle, Meek Mill formed a group with three other neighborhood kids, Mel Love, Dat Nigga Leel and Young Pooh, calling themselves “Bloodhoundz”. The group split after five years and Mill went out on his own to explore his solo career.
Meek Mill soon became one of Philly’s hottest independent underground rappers, and began releasing mixtapes in 2006, debuting with The Real Me. Within a few years, after the release of the second successful mixtape of the Flamerz series, his output prompted offers from Warner Bros. and T.I.’s Atlantic-affiliated Grand Hustle. The MC chose to associate with Grand Hustle, but never got the chance to sign before he was arrested spent time in jail. Once free, he continued pushing mixtapes, including a fourth volume of the Flamerz series, and was included in XXL magazine’s Freshman Class feature for 2011. Through Twitter, Meek Mill caught the attention of Rick Ross, signed to Ross’ Maybach Music Group, and appeared on the label’s Self Made, Vol. 1 compilation prior to releasing his first real studio album, Dreamchasers.
In addition to his 2012 releases Self Made, Vol. 2,Dreamchasers 2 and Same Dream, Meek Mill has a few shows scheduled in July. Want more from the Philly rap sensation? Make sure to demand him in your hometown.
